A new study released on Monday claims that Avatar has the most profitable movie ever at the global box office.
The film, which debuted at the top of the list in its domestic debut, earned $2.3 billion domestically and $2 billion internationally in its first two weeks, according to the study from Bespoke Analytics.
The study, which includes a breakdown of domestic grosses, international grosses and worldwide grosses by the studio behind the film, said the film will break records on both fronts.
“It is a record in its class,” said Jeffrey Kagan, the co-founder and chief executive officer of Bespokes Analytics.
“It’s not just in terms of grosses that it’s the best opening weekend for any film ever.
It’s in terms on its theatrical ticket sales.
The box office gross is in the high triple digits for a movie that’s only in its fourth weekend.”
Bespoke analysts say the film’s opening weekend is the second-highest in the studio’s history, and the highest gross for a film released in the United States in 2016.
It also is the highest in the history of Avatar.
“We expect it to surpass the record set by the Harry Potter franchise,” Kagan said.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” another Avengers film, is the best-performing film of all time.
The study says that it will earn $2 million more on its opening weekend than the film that launched the franchise.
The movie is a joint production between Disney and Marvel Studios.
